Union Cabinet Approves Kapas Kanti Cotton Mission

The Union Cabinet approved Kapas Kanti, a major ₹5,600-crore cotton productivity mission aimed at transforming India’s cotton sector through scientific innovation and modern agricultural practices. The mission focuses on developing climate-resilient and high-yield cotton seed varieties, improving productivity, and modernizing cultivation methods across cotton-growing regions.

The initiative is expected to benefit nearly 32 lakh cotton farmers across the country. The government aims to increase India’s cotton production to 498 lakh bales by 2030–31, strengthening India’s position in the global textile and cotton economy.


Supreme Court Judge Strength Likely to Increase

The Union Cabinet approved the introduction of the Supreme Court (Number of Judges) Amendment Bill, 2026. The proposed legislation seeks to increase the sanctioned strength of Supreme Court judges from 33 to 37, excluding the Chief Justice of India.

The move is intended to address the growing pendency of cases and improve judicial efficiency in the country’s highest court.
