1. BrahMos May Soon Enter Russian Service

BrahMos, the India-Russia supersonic cruise missile, may soon be inducted into Russian service. In June 2026, officials discussed possible supplies, expansion of production capacity and development of future smaller and hypersonic variants.

This development highlights the growing strategic importance of BrahMos Aerospace in precision missile technology. It also reinforces India-Russia defence cooperation and the global relevance of the BrahMos missile system.

2. Celtic Princely Grave Discovered in Germany

Archaeologists in Hesse, Germany, discovered a Celtic princely grave near Bad Camberg during excavation work for a solar park. The grave belongs to the early La Tène period of the Iron Age.

The burial site contained gold jewellery, weapon fragments, wagon remains and an Etruscan bronze jug. These findings indicate the presence of elite social networks and long-distance cultural connections in Iron Age Europe.

3. UAE Sets Minimum Age of 15 for Social Media Accounts

The United Arab Emirates has approved a nationwide rule setting 15 years as the minimum age for personal social media accounts. Social media platforms will be required to implement strong age verification mechanisms.

The rule also directs platforms to restrict unsafe online interactions, protect children’s data and ensure digital safety. Companies must comply with the regulation by June 2027. This marks a major step towards child protection in the digital space.

4. Indian Scientists Develop BDIM for Safer Zinc Batteries

Scientists at the Institute of Nano Science and Technology, under the Department of Science and Technology, have developed BDIM, an electrolyte additive for Aqueous Zinc Ion Batteries.

BDIM helps regulate the Inner Helmholtz Plane, which reduces dendrite growth, corrosion and hydrogen evolution. This innovation can improve battery safety, stability and performance, supporting future energy storage technologies.

5. First BRICS MSME Forum to Be Held in Agra

The Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises will host the first BRICS MSME Forum and the third Small and Medium Enterprises Working Group Meeting in Agra on 19 June 2026.

The forum will focus on resilience, innovation, cooperation, sustainability and global competitiveness of MSMEs. It is expected to strengthen collaboration among BRICS nations and provide new opportunities for small businesses.

6. Exercise Khaan Quest 2026 Begins in Mongolia

Exercise Khaan Quest 2026 will be held in Mongolia from 20 June to 3 July. India will participate with a 40-member contingent led by the Jat Regiment.

The exercise will focus on United Nations peacekeeping operations. Training activities will include checkpoint drills, patrolling, cordon-and-search operations, civilian evacuation, counter-IED drills, first aid and casualty evacuation.

7. NRAA Leads Consultation on Watershed Guidelines

The National Rainfed Area Authority, knowledge partner of the Department of Land Resources, led a consultation on watershed guidelines under the REWARD program.

NRAA plays an important role in supporting rainfed and dryland farming. It provides policy advice, coordinates research and promotes climate-resilient watershed planning. The initiative aims to strengthen sustainable agriculture and rural livelihoods across India.
