President Murmu Reviews Project Cheetah at Kuno National Park
President Droupadi Murmu reviewed Project Cheetah at Kuno National Park in Madhya Pradesh. Launched in 2022, the project aims to reintroduce cheetahs in India after the species was declared extinct in the country in 1952. Cheetahs were brought from Namibia and South Africa as part of India’s wildlife conservation and ecological restoration efforts.
India to Acquire Retired Jaguar Aircraft from the UK
India will acquire nine retired SEPECAT Jaguar aircraft from the United Kingdom in 2026 for cannibalisation, meaning recovery of spare parts. The British-French twin-engine strike aircraft is currently active only with the Indian Air Force. These aircraft will help support India’s ageing strike squadrons till 2030–32.
India Hosts BRICS National Security Advisers’ Meeting
India is hosting the BRICS National Security Advisers’ Meeting on 22–23 June 2026 under the chairmanship of National Security Adviser Ajit Doval. CCPA Fines Food Companies for Misleading Claims
The Central Consumer Protection Authority, or CCPA, fined Storia Foods and Mrs. Bectors ₹1 lakh each for misleading “100%” food claims. The authority held that “100%” is an absolute claim and must match the actual composition of the product. This decision strengthens consumer protection against deceptive advertising.
The Department of Atomic Energy inaugurated a Versatile Deuterated Compounds Production Plant and commissioned a 24 kA Prototype Sodium Cell at HWBF, Vadodara. Astronomers have detected signs of a thin atmosphere around Kuiper Belt object 2002 XV93, located beyond Neptune. This discovery is important because such small icy bodies were not expected to retain atmospheres. It raises new questions about trans-Neptunian objects and the evolution of the Solar System.
