Lok Sabha Clears Key Sports Governance, Anti-Doping Bills

Why in the News?

The Lok Sabha has passed the National Sports Governance Bill, 2025 and the National Anti-Doping (Amendment) Bill, 2025, aiming to strengthen governance of sports bodies and align anti-doping regulations with international standards, amid opposition protests over Bihar’s voter roll revision exercise.

National Anti-Doping (Amendment) Bill, 2025

  • Amends National Anti-Doping Act, 2022 (based on UNESCO convention).
  • Prohibits doping; sets rules for testing, enforcement, and adjudication.
  • Strengthens National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA).
  • Empowers National Board for Anti-Doping in Sports to seek information from Disciplinary and Appeal Panels.
  • Updates list of anti-doping rule violations in line with international standards.

About National Sports Governance Bill, 2025:

● Seeks recognition and regulation of national sports bodies.
● Establishes:
National Olympic Committee
National Paralympic Committee
National & Regional Sports Federations for each sport.
● Affiliation required with respective international bodies.
Structure of national bodies:
○ General body with equal representation from affiliates + ex-officio members.
○ Executive committee (max 15 members) with 2 outstanding sportspersons & 4 women.
National Sports Board to grant recognition and register affiliate units.
National Sports Tribunal to adjudicate disputes in sports.
