JHARKHAND ASSEMBLY’S BILL
Why in the News/ Issue :
- The Jharkhand Assembly passed the ‘Khatiyan’ Bill on Wednesday without amendments.
- Originally passed on November 22, 2022 the bill was sent back by the Governor for reconsideration and Attorney General’s suggestions.
- Jharkhand’s Chief Minister advocates reapproving the original bill without changes, rejecting the Attorney General’s advice.
About the Bill:
- The Bill is based on the State’s domicile policy on land records from 1932.
- Includes provisions for reserving grade 3 and grade 4 government jobs for locals.
- A provision in the Bill aims to include it in the Ninth Schedule, providing protection against judicial review.
