1. Assam Tables UCC Bill, 2026

Assam has tabled the Uniform Civil Code Bill, 2026, aiming to bring uniformity in laws related to marriage, divorce, succession and live-in relationships. The Bill proposes compulsory registration of marriages and live-in relationships, bans polygamy, fixes minimum marriage age, and recognises the rights of live-in partners and their children.

This is significant because it brings the debate on personal laws, gender justice, social reform and constitutional equality back into national focus.


2. India Hosts Quad Foreign Ministers’ Meeting
