PM Modi Appeals for Self-Reliance Amid West Asia Crisis

Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged citizens to support the nation during the ongoing West Asia crisis by adopting responsible economic and consumption practices. He appealed to people to conserve foreign exchange, reduce fuel consumption, limit discretionary spending, and promote self-reliance through the use of local products.

The Prime Minister also emphasized the importance of organic farming and domestic production as part of India’s broader push towards Atmanirbhar Bharat. His appeal comes at a time when global instability, especially in West Asia, can impact crude oil prices, supply chains, foreign exchange reserves, and overall economic stability.

This message highlights the link between individual consumption choices and national economic security.

India Ranks Third Globally in Renewable Energy Capacity

India has achieved a major milestone by ranking third globally in installed renewable energy capacity. The country’s solar manufacturing capacity has also seen rapid growth, with domestic solar module capacity nearly doubling from 38 GW in March 2024 to 74 GW in March 2025.

This marks a significant step towards India’s clean energy transition and its long-term climate goals. However, despite this progress, India continues to depend heavily on imports for critical components used in the solar and renewable energy sector.

The development underlines both India’s achievement and the challenges ahead. While domestic manufacturing has expanded, reducing dependence on imported components will be crucial for energy security, industrial growth, and achieving self-reliance in green technology.

Donald Trump to Visit China from May 13–15

US President Donald Trump is scheduled to visit China from May 13 to 15. This will be the first presidential visit to China in nearly nine years.

The visit comes at a time of continuing tensions between the United States and China over trade, technology, security, and global geopolitical issues. During the visit, President Trump is expected to meet Chinese President Xi Jinping and participate in cultural engagements.

The visit is being closely watched as it may influence global diplomacy, trade negotiations, supply chains, and the broader balance of power in the Indo-Pacific region.

Delhi Launches Aftercare Scheme for Youth Leaving Childcare Institutions

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta launched the Aftercare Scheme for young individuals leaving childcare institutions. The scheme has received an allocation of ₹3.5 crore for the financial year 2026–27.

The initiative aims to support vulnerable youth who transition out of institutional care and need assistance in education, employment, housing, counselling, and independent living. Such schemes are important because children leaving childcare institutions often face social and financial challenges after attaining adulthood.

The Aftercare Scheme reflects the need for long-term rehabilitation and social protection for young people who require continued state support even after leaving institutional care.

US Labour Department Proposes Salary Threshold Changes for Visa Programs

The U.S. Department of Labor has proposed raising salary thresholds for H-1B, H-1B1, E-3, and PERM visa programs.

This proposal could significantly impact foreign workers employed in specialty occupations, especially in technology, engineering, healthcare, finance, and academic sectors. Higher salary thresholds may increase compliance requirements for employers and could affect hiring decisions involving foreign professionals.

For Indian professionals, particularly those seeking employment in the United States through the H-1B route, this development is important. Any change in salary norms may influence job opportunities, employer sponsorship, and immigration pathways.

Trump Rejects Iran’s Peace Proposal Amid West Asia Conflict

US President Donald Trump rejected Iran’s latest peace proposal, calling it “totally unacceptable.” The development comes amid continuing tensions in West Asia.

Iran’s proposal reportedly focused on ending the conflict and ensuring security in the Strait of Hormuz, a strategically important maritime route for global oil transportation. However, tensions remain high, with the United States and Israel reportedly agreeing on the need to remove Iran’s enriched uranium stockpile.

The situation in West Asia remains critical because instability in the region can affect global oil prices, maritime security, inflation, and international diplomacy.
