Wildlife Institute of India Society Holds 28th Meeting

India Extends Anti-Dumping Duty on Chinese Steel Tubes
India extended the anti-dumping duty imposed on seamless steel tubes imported from China until January 2027.

Anti-dumping duties are trade-remedy measures imposed when imported products cause or threaten to cause material injury to domestic industries.
World Bank Approves $890 Million for PM Surya Ghar Programme
The World Bank approved financial assistance of $890 million for the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar rooftop solar programme.
The funding is expected to support the programme’s objective of providing rooftop solar systems to approximately one crore households. It is also expected to mobilise nearly $4.2 billion in private clean-energy investment.

Tamil Nadu Records India’s Highest Higher Education GER
Tamil Nadu recorded the highest Gross Enrolment Ratio in higher education among Indian States, according to the All India Survey on Higher Education 2023–24.

Gross Enrolment Ratio measures the number of students enrolled in higher education as a percentage of the population belonging to the relevant age group.
Tamil Nadu’s performance reflects its relatively wide network of colleges, universities and higher educational institutions.
ISRO Clears CE20 Cryogenic Engine for LVM3-M7 Mission
The Indian Space Research Organisation successfully conducted the flight-acceptance hot test of the CE20 cryogenic engine at Mahendragiri.
Following the successful test, the engine was cleared for use in the upcoming Launch Vehicle Mark-3 M7 mission.

RBI Launches Inflation Expectations and Consumer Confidence Surveys
The Reserve Bank of India launched its July 2026 rounds of the Inflation Expectations Survey of Households and the Consumer Confidence Survey.

The findings serve as important inputs for the Monetary Policy Committee while determining policy interest rates under India’s flexible inflation-targeting framework.
Household inflation expectations are particularly important because they can influence consumption, savings, wage demands and price-setting behaviour.
India’s First High-Altitude Medicine Centre to Be Established in Keylong
The Indian Council of Medical Research will establish India’s first dedicated High-Altitude Medicine Centre at Keylong in Himachal Pradesh.
The centre will undertake research on health challenges experienced by people living or working in high-altitude environments.

Thorium-Bearing Monazite Deposits Identified in Karnataka
The Geological Survey of India identified thorium-bearing monazite deposits spread across approximately 700 acres in Gundlupet, Karnataka.
Monazite is an important mineral containing thorium and rare-earth elements. Thorium has strategic importance for India because it forms a significant component of the country’s three-stage nuclear power programme.

The discovery could strengthen:
- India’s indigenous nuclear fuel resources
- Long-term nuclear energy production
- Exploration of strategic minerals
- Implementation of the three-stage nuclear programme
Indian Navy to Commission Stealth Frigate Mahendragiri
The Indian Navy will commission Mahendragiri, the sixth indigenous stealth frigate constructed under Project 17A, at Visakhapatnam.

The commissioning of Mahendragiri will:
- Strengthen India’s blue-water naval capability
- Improve maritime surveillance and combat preparedness
- Promote indigenous defence shipbuilding
- Support the Make in India and Atmanirbhar Bharat initiatives
The warship is named after Mahendragiri, a mountain peak in the Eastern Ghats.
