- Commissioning Event: INS Nirdeshak, the second ship under the Indian Navy’s Survey Vessel (Large) Project, will be commissioned on December 18 at Visakhapatnam.
- Built by: Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE), Kolkata, the vessel reflects the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative with over 80% indigenous content.
Key Features of INS Nirdeshak
- Advanced Systems: Equipped with state-of-the-art hydrographic and oceanographic survey systems, autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs), and satellite-based navigation.
- Specifications: Measures 110 meters, displaces approximately 3400–3800 tons, and reaches speeds over 18 knots with endurance exceeding 25 days.
- Operational Capability: Powered by marine diesel engines and fixed-pitch propellers, it excels in underwater mapping and maritime security.
