About Sahitya Akademi Awards

●  The Sahitya Akademi award, which was founded in 1954, is a literary honor given out every year by India’s National Academy of Letters, Sahitya Akademi.

●  Every year, Akademi bestows 24 awards on literary works written in the languages it has acknowledged, and an equal number of awards are given to literary translations into and out of Indian languages.

●  The Sahitya Akademi has recognised English and Rajasthani as languages in which its programme may be implemented, in addition to the 22 languages listed in the Indian Constitution.

●  After the Jnanpith award, the Sahitya Akademi award is the second-highest literary honor given by the Indian government.

Jnanpith Prize

●  The highest literary honour in India is the Jnanpith award, which is only given to an Indian citizen once a year.

●  The Indian Constitution’s Eighth Schedule lists English among the languages that are taken into consideration for the Award.

●  The prize includes a citation, a bronze image of the goddess of learning, Vagdevi (Saraswati), and a cash award of Rs. 11 lakhs.

●  The cultural institution Bharatiya Jnanpith is sponsoring it.

●  The 56th Jnanpith Award (2021) went to Assamese poet Nilmani Phookan Jr., and the 57th Jnanpith Award (2022) went to Konkani novelist Damodar Mauzo.
