The ASEAN–India Tourism Professionals Exchange Programme 2025 commenced in Guwahati, bringing together tourism experts from India and ten ASEAN nations to promote regional tourism cooperation, highlight the North-East, and advance objectives of the ASEAN–India Year of Tourism. - The ASEAN–India Tourism Professionals Exchange Programme 2025 began in Guwahati, marking a significant step in deepening people-to-people and tourism cooperation between India and ASEAN, while also focusing on creating a pollution free environment for tourists.
- The programme is being organised by the Assam Tourism Development Corporation Ltd. (ATDC) under the aegis of the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), Government of India, in compliance with the EIA notification guidelines.
- It is scheduled from 12 to 17 December, covering Guwahati, Kaziranga, and New Delhi, allowing delegates to experience diverse tourism ecosystems and understand the importance of environmental impact assessment in tourism development.
- A total of 41 delegates from 10 ASEAN Member States are participating, representing Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Timor Leste, and Vietnam.
- The Guwahati leg featured a sunset cruise on the Brahmaputra, showcasing river-based tourism, community experiences, and Assam’s cultural heritage, while adhering to coastal regulation zone norms.
- Interactive sessions focused on best practices, market trends, destination promotion, and sustainable tourism models, including discussions on the polluter pays principle and precautionary principle in tourism.
- The programme builds on momentum generated during India’s participation at the MATTA Fair 2025 in Kuala Lumpur, where Assam and the North-East were projected as emerging destinations with a focus on environmentally responsible tourism.

- The choice of Assam and the North-East reflects India’s effort to integrate the region into Act East Policy and ASEAN-centric engagement, while ensuring compliance with the Forest Conservation Act.
