Eminent Bengali writer Ramkumar Mukhopadhyay has been selected for the 35th Saraswati Samman (2025) for his novel ‘Hara Parbati Katha’ (2020), highlighting his literary contribution and the award’s continued relevance in recognising outstanding Indian language literature.

  • Ramkumar Mukhopadhyay, a noted Bengali author, has been honoured with the Saraswati Samman 2025.
  • He was born on October 5, 1956, in Kolkata and holds a PhD from Jadavpur University.
  • His literary career spans decades, including nine novels, 11 short story collections, four essay books, and two travelogues.
  • He has also compiled major anthologies such as 103 modern Bengali short stories and 128 folktales from 54 languages.
  • Previously awarded the Bankimchandra Smriti Puraskar by the West Bengal government for his novel ‘Dukhe Keora’.

About the Novel ‘Hara Parbati Katha’

About Saraswati Samman :

  Instituted in 1991 by the KK Birla Foundation, it is among India’s most prestigious literary awards.

  Awarded annually for an outstanding literary work published in the last 10 years.

  Eligible works must be written in any language listed under the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution.

  The award includes ₹15 lakh (approx.), a citation, and a plaque.

  The selection committee is currently headed by Justice Arjan Kumar Sikri, former Supreme Court judge.
