India will host the International Fleet Review (IFR) 2026 in Visakhapatnam after a gap of 25 years. The event, aligned with India’s 75th Republic anniversary, aims to boost maritime cooperation, multilateral engagement, and India’s evolving naval outreach in the Indo-Pacific.
IFR 2026: Significance and Objectives:
- India will organise the International Fleet Review in February 2026, showcasing global naval cooperation under the themes “United through Oceans” and “Bridges of Friendship.”
- The previous IFR was held in 2001, marking the Republic’s 50th anniversary; the 2026 edition aligns with the country’s 75th anniversary.
- The Navy emphasises that maritime space has become central to India’s foreign policy, driven by issues like piracy, illegal fishing, climate change, and economic inequality.

India’s Expanding Maritime Diplomacy and Strategic Outreach
- India is strengthening regional maritime capacities by gifting platforms like a corvette to Vietnam, fast interceptor craft to Mozambique, and setting up a Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre in Sri Lanka.
- India’s credibility as a reliable security partner is shaped by its effective HADR operations across the Indo-Pacific.
- At a UN meeting of Troop Contributing Countries, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh highlighted India’s commitment to a rules-based international order and the need to reform outdated global institutions.
