  • The International Solar Alliance (ISA), in collaboration with India’s Ministry of New & Renewable Energy, the Asian Development Bank, and the International Solar Energy Society, hosted the third edition of the High-level Conference on New Technologies for Clean Energy Transition.
  • The conference took place alongside the Seventh Session of the ISA Assembly in New Delhi, with a focus on advancing solar technologies, storage innovations, and their role in achieving equitable economic, social, and environmental development.

Key Highlights:

  • Ajay Mathur, Director General of ISA, emphasised the importance of transitioning away from fossil fuels, focusing on renewable energy goals such as tripling renewable power and doubling energy efficiency by 2030.
  • Pralhad Joshi, India’s Minister of New and Renewable Energy, discussed the global collaboration required for a successful clean energy transition and the crucial role of solar technology.
  • The launch of the third edition of the World Solar Report highlighted solar power’s growth, with global capacity rising from 22 GW in 2000 to 1,418.97 GW in 2023.

Global Energy Transformation:

  • The conference also presented the World Investment Report, noting a surge in clean energy investments, especially in solar energy.
  • The World Technology Report showcased advancements in solar technology, such as record-breaking efficiency in solar panels and reduced silicon usage in manufacturing, further driving cost reductions and environmental benefits.

About the Clean Energy Transitions Programme (CETP):

  • Launched by IEA in 2017, aiming for global clean energy transformation.
  • Provides analysis, technical assistance, and capacity building to developing countries.
  • Activities include:
    • Supporting clean energy goals aligned with the Paris Agreement and SDGs.
    • Facilitating coordination among G20 and UN collaborations.
    • Enabling global clean energy transitions.
