 About NCW’s Political Affiliation Clarification:

  • The National Commission for Women (NCW) stated it lacks information regarding the political affiliation of its Chairperson and Members.
  • Established under the NCW Act, 1990, by the Ministry of Women and Child Development, the NCW members are nominated by the Government of India.
What is The National Commission for Women (NCW)?

  • Established in 1992 under the NCW Act, 1990, the National Commission for Women (NCW) is an autonomous statutory body.
  • Its primary purpose is to safeguard and promote women’s rights in India, addressing relevant issues, and making recommendations.

Composition and Tenure:

  • The NCW consists of a Chairperson, 5 Members, and a Member-Secretary, all appointed by the Central Government.
  • Each member serves a three-year term, as stipulated by the NCW Act, 1990.

Removal Process:

  • The Central Government holds the authority to remove the Chairperson or any Member from office.
  • Removal may occur if the Chairperson or Member engages in specified misconduct or breaches outlined criteria.
