Manipur Blast Triggers Internet Curbs, Security Alert

Manipur Curbs Internet After Bishnupur Blast; Chief Minister Khemchand Singh Calls It an Attack on Peace

Manipur imposed curbs on mobile internet and data services after a deadly blast in Bishnupur district triggered fresh unrest in the state. The violence began after two children were killed in an explosion at a civilian home, leading to protests, clashes, and a sharp security response. Authorities suspended internet services in five valley districts to contain rumours, inflammatory messaging, and further mobilisation through social media. Curfew restrictions were also imposed in parts of the state as the situation deteriorated.

The Chief Minister of Manipur is Yumnam Khemchand Singh, who returned to office in February 2026 after the end of President’s Rule. Following the Bishnupur incident, he said the attackers had not yet been identified and described the bombing as an attempt to disturb the peace process. The state government has also handed the investigation to the National Investigation Agency, underlining the seriousness of the incident. The episode is important because it shows how fragile peace remains in Manipur after the Meitei–Kuki violence that began in 2023.
