● Unique Holi Tradition: Instead of water balloons, Jaipur celebrates Holi with ‘gulaal gota’, a tradition dating back 400 years. ● Making Process: Gulaal gotas are small lac balls filled with dry colours, made by Muslim lac makers in Jaipur. ● Lac is shaped, coloured, filled with gulaal, and sealed. ● Historical Context: The tradition originated with Muslim lac makers who settled in Jaipur from Afghanistan. ● They learned lac-making from Hindu lac makers. Jaipur’s founder dedicated a lane for them. |
