Government Health Spending Reduces Citizens’ Medical Financial Burden
Why in the News ?
The National Health Accounts (NHA) Estimates 2022-23 show a major decline in India’s Out-of-Pocket Expenditure (OOPE) on healthcare, alongside rising government health spending. The Union Health Ministry credited this improvement to expanded public healthcare infrastructure and welfare schemes.
Decline In Out-Of-Pocket Health Expenditure:

- The Ministry highlighted the role of over 1.8 lakh Ayushman Arogya Mandir wellness centres in expanding preventive and curative healthcare services.
- These centres provide free services including maternal care, treatment of communicable and non-communicable diseases, diagnostics, teleconsultation, and wellness sessions.
