Defence Minister Rajnath Singh inaugurated the first Tejas LCA Mk1A fighter jet from HAL’s new Nashik production line, marking a major milestone in India’s pursuit of self-reliance in defence manufacturing under the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative.
India’s Push for Defence Self-Reliance:
- Historic Milestone: The unveiling of Tejas LCA Mk1A and a new HTT-40 production line represents India’s growing capacity in indigenous defence manufacturing.
- Government Commitment: Rajnath Singh reiterated that self-reliance in defence is India’s top strategic priority under the Make in India and Atmanirbhar Bharat
- Import Reduction: Before 2014, India imported 65–70% of its defence equipment; today, 65% is made domestically, showing a significant shift.
