 About Early Resistance to British Rule :

•     Southern India witnessed several important early resistances, including the struggles associated with Puli Thevar, Velu Nachiyar, Veerapandiya Kattabomman and the Marudhu Brothers.
•     Puli Thevar was among the earliest Poligar leaders to resist Company authority in the Tirunelveli region during the 18th century.
•     The Poligar (Palayakkarar) system involved local military chiefs who controlled territories and collected revenue while maintaining armed forces.
