Escalation in West Asia Conflict

Tensions in West Asia intensified as the ongoing conflict entered its twelfth day. Reports indicate that the United States destroyed 16 Iranian mine-laying vessels, escalating military activity in the region. The situation has raised serious concerns about maritime security, particularly around the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial chokepoint for global oil transportation.

Amid fears of disruptions to oil supply, the International Energy Agency (IEA) has proposed releasing record oil reserves to stabilize global markets. Meanwhile, former U.S. President Donald Trump warned against further mining of the Strait of Hormuz, highlighting the geopolitical sensitivity of the region.

India’s Energy Security Measures

In response to potential disruptions in global energy supply routes, the Government of India has invoked provisions under the Essential Commodities Act, 1955. The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas issued a 2026 order prioritizing 100 percent fuel supply for households and transportation sectors to ensure uninterrupted domestic energy availability.

These precautionary measures reflect India’s proactive approach to maintaining energy stability during periods of international uncertainty.

Major India–US Energy Partnership

A major energy partnership between the United States and India has been announced, involving a $300 billion collaboration between Reliance Industries and partners in Texas to develop the “America First Refining” project.

This initiative is particularly noteworthy because it represents the first major oil refinery development in the United States in nearly 50 years, signaling renewed investment in energy infrastructure and strengthening India-US economic ties.

India Strengthens Drone Warfare Capabilities

India continues to advance its defence technology with the development of the Sheshnaag-150 swarm drone system, created by Bengaluru-based startup Newspace Research Technologies.

The drone system has a range of approximately 1,000 kilometres and can carry a 40-kilogram payload, enabling coordinated swarm operations and precision strike capabilities. The development marks a significant step in India’s growing focus on unmanned and AI-driven warfare systems.

Successful Naval Emergency Supply Trials

The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and the Indian Navy successfully completed trials of the Air Droppable Container-150 (ADC-150) near the Goa coast.

The system allows P-8I aircraft to deliver emergency supplies weighing up to 150 kilograms to vessels in distress at sea. This innovation is expected to improve India’s maritime rescue capabilities and enhance humanitarian assistance during emergencies.

Global Malaria Conference in New Delhi

The three-day conference focused on accelerating strategies under India’s National Framework for Malaria Elimination, which aims to eliminate malaria by 2030. Jal Jeevan Mission Extended

The Union Cabinet has extended the Jal Jeevan Mission until December 2028, with a revised total budget of ₹8.69 lakh crore.

The mission aims to provide safe and reliable tap water connections to rural households across India. The extension will also focus on service delivery improvements and digital water infrastructure mapping under the new Sujalam Bharat framework.

Strengthening Women’s Leadership in Local Governance

The Ministry of Panchayati Raj organized a conference in New Delhi marking the first anniversary of the Sashakt Panchayat-Netri Abhiyan.

The initiative promotes women’s leadership in grassroots governance, recognizing outstanding female representatives as “Beacon Women Leaders” and encouraging greater participation of women in local decision-making processes.

Expansion of Free Media Access

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has extended free access to the Prasar Bharati Shared Audio Visuals for Broadcast and Dissemination (PB-SHABD) portal until March 2027.

This initiative allows media organizations to access logo-free video and news content, ensuring wider dissemination of public information and strengthening the reach of credible news sources across the country.
