The Indian Navy completed the refit of the Maldivian Coast Guard Ship MNDF Huravee at Mumbai’s Naval Dockyard. This move highlights India’s maritime partnership with Maldives under its ‘Neighbourhood First’ policy and ‘MAHASAGAR’ vision for regional security cooperation.
Strengthening Maritime Ties with Maldives:
- The Indian Navy successfully completed the refit of the MNDF Huravee, part of the Maldivian Coast Guard.
- The refit aligns with India’s ‘MAHASAGAR’ vision — aimed at ensuring Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security and Growth for All in the Region.

Refit Highlights and Operational Preparedness
- The ship arrived in Mumbai on November 13, 2024, for its major overhaul, which took four months to complete.
- The refit involved extensive maintenance of machinery, weapons, sensors, and a habitability upgrade for the crew.
- Post-refit, the ship successfully completed sea trials, operational checks, and safety audits.
- Upon clearing all evaluations, the ship returned to the Maldives.
Huravee’s Role in Maldives and India-Maldives Cooperation
- Handed over to the Maldives in May 2023, the Make-in-India Huravee replaced an outdated platform.
- The ship plays a significant role in Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR), and in medical evacuation operations across the Maldivian archipelago.
- The refit strengthens the ongoing naval partnership between India and the Maldives, reinforcing regional maritime stability.
