Why in News?

The 6th edition of Exercise Dharma Guardian is being held in Japan from February 24 to March 9, 2025. It aims to enhance interoperability between Indian and Japanese forces in urban warfare and counter-terrorism under a UN mandate.

India-Japan Joint Military Exercise Dharma Guardian 2025 Begins

Key Highlights:

  • The 6th edition of Exercise DHARMA GUARDIAN will be held from February 24 to March 9, 2025, at the East Fuji Manoeuvre Training Area, Japan.
  • The exercise is conducted annually on a rotational basis between India and Japan.
  • Indian Army Contingent: 120 personnel, primarily from the MADRAS Regiment.
  • Japanese Contingent: 34th Infantry Regiment of the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force (JGSDF), with similar strength.
  • The last edition was held in Rajasthan, India, in Feb-Mar 2024.

Objectives

  • Strengthening interoperability between Indian and Japanese forces.
  • Enhancing joint urban warfare and counter-terrorism operations under UN mandate.
  • Improving physical fitness, joint tactical planning, and disaster response strategies.
