Why in the News?

  • ICMR has invited Expressions of Interest (EoI) from eligible organizations, companies, and start-ups manufacturing non-invasive haemoglobinometers.

About Anaemia

·  Anaemia is a condition marked by insufficient red blood cells or inadequate oxygen-carrying capacity.

·  Iron deficiency is the primary cause, but folate, vitamin B12, vitamin A deficiencies, chronic inflammation, parasitic infections, and inherited disorders can also lead to anaemia.

·  Severe cases result in fatigue, weakness, dizziness, and drowsiness, with pregnant women and children being more susceptible.

·  The National Family Health Survey 2019-20 reveals a significant prevalence of anaemia, especially among Indian women and children.
