Aspirational district Program

  • It was introduced in 2018 with the intention of transforming places that have made only modest development in important social sectors.
  • India’s Aspirational Districts are those areas that have low socioeconomic indicators.
  • It encompasses 112 districts nationwide. NITI Aayog is the program’s anchor at the level of the Government of India.
  • With States serving as the primary motivators, this model focuses on each district’s strengths, identifying areas for quick development and tracking success by rating districts regularly.
  • The ranking is determined by the incremental improvements made across 49 Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) organised into five major socioeconomic themes: health and nutrition, education, agriculture and water resources, financial inclusion & skill development, and infrastructure.
  • On the Champions of Change Dashboard, we can view the performance of all districts as well as the delta-ranking of Aspirational Districts.
