Highlights of the Outbreak Situation:
- Kerala experiences a surge in mumps cases, with outbreaks also reported in Maharashtra, Telangana, and Andhra Pradesh.
- Initial cases appeared in November 2023 in Malappuram and Kozhikode, spreading to Palakkad and Thrissur, tallying 15,637 cases by March 22.
About Universal Immunization Programme (UIP):
● Provides free immunisation against 12 vaccine-preventable diseases. ● Nationally targets 9 diseases including polio, measles, and hepatitis B. ● Sub-nationally targets 3 diseases including rotavirus diarrhoea and Japanese encephalitis. ● Achieved milestones: polio eradication in 2014 and elimination of maternal and neonatal tetanus in 2015.
