New Rules For Online Gaming

News: The official guidelines for online gaming have just been announced by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY).

Except for Goa, Sikkim, and the Union Territory of Daman, every state in India expressly outlaws all forms of gambling, betting, and wagering on games of chance.

The states of Assam, Andhra Pradesh, Nagaland, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, and Telangana have also imposed limitations on skill-based games.

The government will designate numerous self-regulatory organisations (SROs) that will include representatives from business, educators, and other specialists, such as psychologists.

Any game that involves betting or wagering is forbidden.

Online players that play games with real money must undergo KYC verification.

MEITY can also alert organisations to fact-check inaccurate and deceptive information pertaining to official business.

Any online game that could hurt the user or that has not been approved as a legal online game by SROs is not permitted for intermediaries to host, publish, or share.

The intermediary must make sure that no prohibited advertisements, substitute advertisements, or promotions for online games are hosted on its platform.

The intermediary must inform its users of the policy for withdrawal or refund of deposit, way of determination and distribution of prizes, fees and other costs, and show a mark of verification by the SROs on such games.

The middleman is not permitted to grant consumers credit or facilitate their access to outside funding.

If the SRO is confident that the online real money game does not entail betting on any outcome, it may rule such games to be legal.

The easy test for permissibility is whether or not there is any wagering involved.

It can check and confirm that the intermediary and the game abide by the regulations, the legal requirements for being legally capable of entering into contracts (now 18 years of age), and the framework protects against user injury.

It can make sure that online games adhere to parental restrictions, age-rating mechanisms, and precautions to protect gamers from the risk of gaming addiction.
