National Panchayat Awards

News: The National Panchayati Raj Award Celebration Week will take place from April 17–21, 2023, leading up to celebrations of National Panchayati Raj Day, which will be observed on April 24. As part of this week, a national conference on the themes of healthy panchayats, water sufficiency, and clean and green panchayats will be held in New Delhi.

Gowthampur Gramme Panchayat in Telangana won the National Panchayat Awards 2023 for Healthy Panchayat, followed by Nellutla Gramme Panchayat for Water Sufficient Panchayat, and Kundal Gramme Panchayat in Maharashtra for Clean and Green Panchayat. Under the “Healthy Village” theme, Panchayats are required to guarantee everyone’s wellness and healthy lives through institutional delivery, nutrition, and early childhood care through ICDS, among other measures.

Every home must have access to drinkable water facilities, and Panchayats are required to handle groundwater depletion, arsenic poisoning, rainwater harvesting and groundwater recharge, among other issues, as part of the “Water Sufficient Village” initiative.

The ‘Clean and Green Village’ Panchayats’ objectives include 100% ODF villages, solid & liquid waste management, a switch to renewable energy sources, increased green cover, biodiversity preservation, etc.

Awarded by the National Panchayat:

By evaluating how well panchayats (local self-government units) around the nation are doing in terms of achieving the SDGs, it recognises the top performers.

Since their inception in 2011, the awards have been presented annually.
