International Aviation Safety Assessment

News: Following a review, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the U.S. regulator of aviation safety, has maintained the “Category 1” classification for India’s aviation safety oversight.

The International Aviation Safety Assessment (IASA) programme was run by the FAA over the course of a year and included physical audits and an additional review in 2022.

This evaluation establishes if a nation’s criteria for aviation safety oversight adhere to the International Civil Aviation Organization’s (ICAO) safety requirements.

The FAA has told the DGCA (Directorate General of Civil Aviation) that India continues to hold FAA IASA Category 1 status, which was last assessed in July 2018. India complies with the international standards for aviation safety monitoring of the Chicago Convention and its Annexes.

The nations listed under “Category-1” adhere to ICAO regulations governing civil aircraft safety.
