Why in the News ?

The Indian Navy commissioned INS Nipun, the second Diving Support Vessel (DSV) of the Nistar-class, at Naval Dockyard, Mumbai. The indigenously built vessel will strengthen specialised underwater capabilities, including diving operations and submarine rescue, particularly under the Western Naval Command.

INS Nipun: Capabilities and Significance

  •     INS Nipun is a purpose-built Diving Support Vessel designed and constructed indigenously by Hindustan Shipyard Limited (HSL), Visakhapatnam.
  •     It is the second DSV of the Nistar-class, expanding the Navy’s specialised fleet for underwater operations.
  •     The vessel is designed to undertake a wide range of diving and underwater intervention operations in demanding maritime conditions.
