ICMR to establish evidence-based guidelines for lung cancer management in India, addressing gaps in prevention, screening, diagnosis, and treatment.

About the Gap in Guidelines:

  • Currently, India lacks evidence-based guidelines for lung cancer prevention, screening, diagnosis, and management, despite its high prevalence, constituting 10% of total cancer deaths.
  • The absence of such guidelines underscores the need for systematic approaches to enhance patient outcomes.
What is the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR):

●   Established in 1911 as the Indian Research Fund Association (IRFA).

●   Renamed as the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) in 1949.

●   Responsible for formulating, coordinating, and promoting biomedical research in India.
