India–Venezuela Engagement: Strengthening Global South Cooperation

Venezuela, being a resource-rich Latin American country, is important for India’s energy diversification and diplomatic engagement. The meeting also reflects an effort to revive NAM-era solidarity through practical cooperation with emerging and developing nations.

Amit Shah Chairs 73rd NEC Plenary Session in Shillong

Union Home Minister Amit Shah chaired the 73rd Plenary Session of the North Eastern Council in Shillong. The NEC is a statutory planning body for the eight northeastern states.

The session reviewed Chief Minister-led task forces and discussed key sectors such as tourism, agriculture, investment, handlooms and handicrafts. The meeting underlines the government’s continued focus on regional development, connectivity and economic growth in the North East.

World Yogasana Sports Championship Begins in Ahmedabad

The inaugural World Yogasana Sports Championship began in Ahmedabad with more than 400 participants from 60 countries.

The event promotes Yoga as a competitive sport and strengthens India’s soft power at the global level. It also supports India’s larger vision of promoting wellness diplomacy and encouraging Yogasana’s inclusion in major multi-sport events.

Project Patriot Pipeline: Strengthening Defence Workforce Readiness

Project Patriot Pipeline, launched by the United States, aims to strengthen defence workforce readiness by connecting military transition programmes, SkillBridge opportunities and industrial-base employment.

The initiative covers key sectors such as aviation, cybersecurity, healthcare, engineering, shipbuilding and missile defence. It is designed to improve national security capacity and build long-term strategic resilience.

Fotu La Tunnel Approved in Ladakh

The approved ₹1,196-crore Fotu La Tunnel on NH-01 in Ladakh will improve all-weather connectivity on the Srinagar–Leh route.

The project will reduce travel distance, ease high-altitude travel risks and strengthen civilian mobility. It will also support essential supplies and defence logistics in India’s strategically sensitive border region.

NASA’s MAVEN Mission Concludes

NASA’s MAVEN mission, launched in November 2013, concluded on 3 June 2026 after studying Mars’ atmosphere for more than a decade.

The mission helped scientists understand atmospheric escape, solar interactions and the climate evolution of Mars. Its findings explained how Mars changed from a wetter planet to the cold and dry planet seen today. MAVEN also supported data relay operations for NASA’s Curiosity and Perseverance rovers.

Chumur to Become India’s First Model Border Village

Chumur village in eastern Ladakh is being developed as India’s first model border village under the Vibrant Villages Programme.

The project focuses on border infrastructure, Pashmina-based livelihoods, tourism, renewable energy, digital connectivity and civilian-defence integration. Located near the India-China frontier, Chumur’s development is important for both local welfare and national security.

52nd G7 Summit to be Held in France

The 52nd G7 Summit will be held in Évian-les-Bains, France, from 15 to 17 June 2026.

India is not a member of the G7 but participates as an invited partner. India’s presence reflects its growing importance in global governance, artificial intelligence, trade, critical minerals and strategic diplomacy.
