India Shines in International Sports

India delivered an outstanding performance across multiple international sporting events.

Olympic medallist Mirabai Chanu secured her third consecutive Commonwealth Games gold medal and established three new Games records.

In para-athletics, Sharmila Dhankar created history by winning India’s first-ever Commonwealth Games para-athletics gold medal.

Indian shooter Esha Singh claimed the gold medal at the International Shooting Sport Federation World Cup in Hangzhou, while Manu Bhaker added a bronze medal to India’s tally.

India Approves Anhydrous Ammonia as a Fertiliser

The Government of India has approved the use of anhydrous ammonia as a fertiliser for a period of three years.

Anhydrous ammonia contains approximately 82 percent nitrogen, making it a highly concentrated alternative to conventional fertilisers such as urea.

However, its use requires pressurised storage facilities, specialised equipment and trained personnel because of the risks associated with its transportation and handling.

Nepal Permits ₹200 and ₹500 Currency Notes

Nepal has allowed Indian and Nepalese citizens to carry post-demonetisation ₹200 and ₹500 currency notes across the India–Nepal border.

The permitted amount has been capped at ₹25,000 per person.

The decision is expected to facilitate tourism, cross-border trade and everyday financial transactions between citizens of the two neighbouring countries.

NSE Launches India’s First Domestic Natural Gas Futures Contract

The National Stock Exchange has launched NATGASIND, India’s first natural-gas futures contract based on a domestic benchmark.

The contract is linked to the Dahej natural-gas hub and will facilitate rupee-based price discovery.

It is expected to help producers, consumers and traders manage price fluctuations and hedge risks in India’s expanding natural-gas market.

World Nature Conservation Day Observed

World Nature Conservation Day is observed annually on 28 July to create awareness about the protection and sustainable utilisation of natural resources.

The observance highlights the importance of conserving forests, water, wildlife, soil and biodiversity amid increasing concerns over climate change, pollution and ecosystem degradation.

It also reminds governments, institutions and individuals of their collective responsibility to protect the environment for future generations.
