1. Indigenous AK-203 ‘Sher’ Rifle Test-Fired

Indo-Russian Rifles Private Limited successfully test-fired the 100% indigenous AK-203 ‘Sher’ rifle at Korwa in Amethi, Uttar Pradesh. The Indian Army’s user trials are scheduled to begin in September 2026. This development marks a significant step towards strengthening India’s defence-manufacturing capabilities and self-reliance.

2. India Observes Third National Space Day

India observed its third National Space Day on 23 August. The occasion commemorates the historic touchdown of Chandrayaan-3’s Vikram lander at Shiv Shakti Point, near the Moon’s south polar region. The achievement established India as the first country to land near the lunar south pole.

3. India–Russia Economic Cooperation Meeting

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar will co-chair the 27th India-Russia Intergovernmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific, Technological and Cultural Cooperation meeting in Moscow. Russian First Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov will represent Russia.

4. National Security Strategies Conference

Union Home Minister Amit Shah will inaugurate the two-day 9th National Security Strategies Conference in New Delhi. More than 850 police and security officers will participate and deliberate on emerging national-security challenges and suitable strategies.

5. National Conclave on Tribal Languages and Museums

The Ministry of Tribal Affairs is organising a three-day National Conclave in Mysuru. The event focuses on preserving tribal languages, strengthening tribal museums and promoting indigenous knowledge. Tribal-language primers and an upgraded version of the Adi Vaani platform will also be presented.

6. India’s First Digital Soil Texture Map

The National Bureau of Soil Survey and Land Use Planning, an ICAR institution based in Nagpur, has developed India’s first digital soil texture map. It is expected to improve agricultural planning, soil-resource assessment and sustainable land management.

7. BRICS Sports Ministers’ Meeting

India is hosting the BRICS Sports Ministers’ Meeting in Visakhapatnam under its 2026 BRICS Chairship. Representatives from all 11 BRICS member countries are participating. The meeting seeks to strengthen international cooperation through sports and related initiatives.
