- NITI Aayog Launched a 15-day ‘Jal Utsav‘ to focus on water conservation and sustainability.
- Inspired by: Prime Minister Modi’s vision, following the model of ‘Nadi Utsav’ discussed at the 3rd Chief Secretaries Conference in December.
Key Highlights of Jal Utsav
- Organized: Until November 24 in partnership with National Jal Jeevan Mission and Ministry of Jal Shakti.
- Implemented in: 20 Aspirational Districts and Blocks across 20 states, encouraging community involvement in water conservation.
- Student Involvement: School students engage in water management activities, promoting awareness within communities.

What is the Jal Jeevan Mission?
About:
- Launched in 2019: Aims to provide 55 liters per person per day to rural households via Functional Household Tap Connections (FHTC) by 2024.
- Jan Andolan: Promotes a mass movement for water conservation, emphasizing it as a shared public priority.
- Under Jal Shakti Ministry: Overseen by this ministry to ensure alignment with national water goals.
Aims:
- System Functionality: Ensures maintenance of water supply systems, water quality monitoring, and testing.
- Sustainable Agriculture: Supports conjunctive use of water for agriculture and augments drinking water sources.
- Water Management: Focuses on grey water treatment and reuse as well as expanding drinking water sources.
