About the Development of Diagnostic Test:

  • The Union government plans to introduce a new test for diagnosing specific learning disabilities (SLDs) in adults in India by the year’s end.
  • The National Institute for the Empowerment of Persons with Intellectual Disabilities (NIEPID) in Secunderabad, Telangana, is designing the test.
About The National Institute for the Empowerment of Persons with Intellectual Disabilities (NIEPID):

  • Established in 1984 at Manovikas Nagar, Secunderabad, NIEPID (formerly NIMH) is under the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Government of India.
  • It provides quality services to Persons with Intellectual Disabilities (Divyangjan) and has regional centres in Noida, Kolkata, and Mumbai.
  • Objectives: include human resources development, research, care models, documentation, consultancy, community-based rehabilitation, and outreach programs.
