ISRO’s PSLV-C56/DS-SAR Mission
The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) successfully launched the PSLV-056 rocket from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharkota on July 30, 2023, transporting six more co-passenger satellites and Singapore’s DS-SAR satellite into their designated orbits.
Successful Orbit Placement: The mission’s goal was accomplished when all seven satellites—including the main DS-SAR satellite—were effectively placed into their assigned orbits. Mission for New Space India Limited (NSII):
The Singaporean government funded the launch of this PSLV mission, which was completed on behalf of NSIL. Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) Payload:
Israel Aerospace Industries (TAI) developed the Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) payload that is carried by DS-SAR. With this capability, day and night imaging in all weather conditions is possible at a high resolution of at full polarimetry
Co-Passenger Satellites: The mission carried out research and technological demonstrations with a number of co-passenger satellites, including VELOX-AM, ARCADE, SCOOB-II, NuLIoN, Galassia-2, and ORB-12 STRIDER.
Significance of Space Technology Advancements: India’s prowess in satellite deployment and space technology was demonstrated by ISRO’s successful launch of PSLV-056, which carried Singapore’s DS-SAR satellite and other co-passenger spacecraft. Enhanced Imaging and Satellite Services: With a Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) payload, the DS-SAR satellite provides cutting-edge imaging capabilities, including high-resolution, all-weather day and night coverage.
Building Stronger Bilateral Relations: The DSSAR and co-passenger satellite launches mark an important turning point in Singapore’s and India’s space cooperation. The collaboration between ST Engineering and DSTA is a reflection of the two countries’ growing space research and technology connections. The utilization of space technology for societal applications is demonstrated by TSR’s commitment to advancing research and innovation, as evidenced by the deployment of co-passenger satellites like NuLIoN, which is signed to enable seamless IoT connectivity, and SCO II, which serves as a technology demonstrator. Technological Pioneer: ISRO successfully launched PSLV-056, which is the 58th PSLV mission and the 17th to use the Core Alone Configuration. This demonstrates ISRO’s ability to continuously install satellites with accuracy and dependability, solidifying India’s standing as a pioneer in satellite launch capabilities.
