Gujarat’s First Satellite Network Portal Site to Be Established by OneWeb

  • On 19th July, 2023, OneWeb India Communications signed an MoU with the Gujarat government to build India’s first satellite network portal site in Mehsana, Gujarat.
  • Key Points 
  • The satellite network portal site will facilitate satellite communications via satellite tracking antenna systems by acting as a downlink and uplink terminal for signals and data. Investment and Employment Creation by OneWeb 
  • OneWeb intends to invest up to Rs100 crore in the project, & generating 500 direct and indirect employment opportunities, including jobs for instrumentation, electronics, and telecom engineers. Complete Earth Coverage: Forty of these satellite network portals would be used by the website to cover the entire planet. Two of these portals are slated for India, one in Gujarat and the other most likely in Tamil Nadu. Project Requirements and Approvals: IN-SPACe and TRAI regulatory approvals, 20 acres of land, civil infrastructure, and fiber connectivity are required for this project.

    Economic Development and Job Creation: The establishment of 500 direct and indirect jobs, including roles for electronics and telecom engineers, will draw talent from the technology industry and increase employment in the area.
