RECCE AIRCRAFT TO ANTI-TANK MINES: GREEN LIGHT TO BIG-TICKET PURCHASES

Why in the news?

  • Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) sanctioned procurements totaling Rs 84,560 crore for the armed forces.
  • Approved acquisitions include 15 maritime reconnaissance and multi-mission maritime aircraft for the Navy and Coast Guard, six flight refueller aircraft for the IAF, and new generation anti-tank mines for the Army.

●      DAC, under Defence Ministry, is top decision-making body for military policies and acquisitions.

●      Chaired by Defence Minister, it oversees Army, Navy, Air Force, and Coast Guard acquisitions.

●      Established in 2001 after Kargil War reforms.

Acceptance of Necessity (AoN)

●     AoN signifies the preliminary approval granted for procuring military equipment and hardware as per India’s defence acquisition procedure.
