  • President Droupadi Murmu to attend the golden jubilee celebrations of the Karbi Youth Festival at Taralangso near Diphu in Assam on January 17, 2024.
  • The Festival is extended from five to eight days for the golden jubilee, starting on January 12.
  • The venue will be the Karbi People’s Hall in Taralangso, about 7 km from Diphu.
  • Karbi Anglong district administration declares the festival venue a “no drone flying zone” for the President’s visit.

Note : Karbi , is a ethnic community under the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC).

  • The Karbi Youth Festival is an annual celebration observed by the Karbi People.
  • It takes place in East and West Karbi Anglong districts and other Northeastern Indian states, with occasional participation from neighboring tribes.
  • Historic Significance:
    • The festival is recognized as the oldest ethnic festival in North-East India.
    • Founded in 1974 by enthusiastic youth of Diphu Karbi Club.
  • Organizers: Organized by the Karbi Cultural Society (KCS).
  • Local Name: Locally known as “Karbi Riso-Nimso Rong Aje.”
  • Zonal Karbi Youth Festival (ZKYF):
    • Smaller festivals known as Zonal Karbi Youth Festivals are celebrated in respective regions.
    • These regional events precede the main cultural festival at Taralangso, Diphu.
