Benefits of Yoga

Q. 21st June is celebrated as the International Yoga Day. By doing so, India is projecting itself as the Yoga hub of the world. Explain briefly the significance of this along with the benefits of Yoga and its Anushtana.

Introduction:

India started celebrating International Yoga Day on 21st June from the year 2015. Creating awareness all around the world about the benefits of Yoga in daily life is the central idea behind International Yoga Day. The theme for 2021 was “Yoga for well-being”.

Body:

Yoga is an ancient practice. It brings balance between the mind, soul & body. It is a form of exercise practiced through diet, physical posture and meditation. Lord Shiva is considered as the origin of yoga. Each activity of yoga is a step to improve flexibility, strength & balance of the body.

There is a common misconception about Yoga refers to only the different postures(asanas). But, asanas are just a small part of yoga. About practicing yoga, Maharshi Patanjali has quoted “Sthiram Sukham Asanam” which means posture that appears to be firm and agreeable.
