The Pravasi Bharatiya Divas Convention, themed “Diaspora’s Contribution to a Viksit Bharat,” will take place in Bhubaneswar from January 8 to 10. The event will feature exhibitions, youth sessions, and awards honoring diaspora contributions.

Event Overview:

• The 18th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) Convention, the largest gathering of the Indian diaspora, will be held in Bhubaneswar from January 8 to 10, 2025.
• This year’s theme, ‘Diaspora’s Contribution to a Viksit Bharat’, highlights the role of the diaspora in India’s progress.
• Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the convention on January 9, and Christine Carla Kangaloo, President of Trinidad & Tobago, will address the gathering virtually.
• Over 50 countries will be represented, fostering global engagement and connections among the Indian diaspora.

Key Highlights

• Four exhibitions will explore:
  • ‘Vishwaroop Ram’: Depicting the universal legacy of the Ramayana through art.
  • Diaspora’s Contribution to Technology and Viksit Bharat: Showcasing technological advancements driven by the diaspora.
  • Indian Diaspora: Mandvi to Muscat: Highlighting rare records of migrants from Gujarat to Oman.
  • Heritage and Culture of Odisha: Celebrating Odisha’s rich cultural legacy and art.
• The Pravasi Bharatiya Express, a dedicated tourist train, will be flagged off by PM Modi, covering key destinations under the Pravasi Teertha Darshan Yojana.

Special Sessions and Recognitions

• Youth Pravasi Bharatiya Divas, on January 8, will feature Dev Pragad, CEO of Newsweek, as Guest of Honour.
• President Droupadi Murmu will preside over the valedictory session, presenting the Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Awards 2025 to outstanding diaspora members.
• The event emphasizes strengthening India’s ties with its global diaspora while celebrating their contributions to the nation’s development.
