About NGT Rejection:

  • The National Green Tribunal (NGT) declined the Special Protection Group’s (SPG) request to extend the registration of three diesel-run armoured vehicles for Prime Minister’s security.
  • Citing the Supreme Court’s 2018 order banning diesel vehicles over 10 years old in Delhi NCR, NGT rejected the plea.
Understanding National Green Tribunal(NGT):

●   Legal Foundation: Established under the National Green Tribunal Act, 2010, the NGT ensures the constitutional right to a healthy environment (Article 21).

●   Principal Place: The main sitting of the Tribunal is in New Delhi, with additional sittings in Bhopal, Pune, Kolkata, and Chennai.

●   Timely Disposal: NGT is required to finalise the disposal of applications or appeals within six months of their filing.
