World Youth Skill Day is celebrated on 15th of July. In the hindsight of this program, substantiate how India is focussing on Skill Development Programs.
Introduction:
July 15th is celebrated as the World Youth Skill Day. India has also given a lot of emphasis on developing the skills in youth. PM Kaushal Vikas Yojana is a government initiative under Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship in this regard. It was initially launched in the year 2015. More than 1.25 Cr youth have been already trained tiill date under this program.

Currently 3rd version of PMKVY has been implemented for the year 2020-21. Features of this are:
- Scheme is applicable for persons aged between 15-45 and having an Adhar card with linked bank account.
- Launched in 717 districts under Atmanirbhar Bharat
- Trainee-learner centric
- Vocational training through National Education Policy 2020
- Better allocation of funds to states that perform better
- Total outlay amounts to around 1000 Crore Rupees
Conclusion:
This scheme will continue to increase the skills required for employment. The pandemic situation has hampered the economy and the employment opportunities. Also, some of the multinational companies are looking at other countries like Bangladesh due to better skillsets like fluency in English. These jobs were often seen as India’s strength. By providing necessary complementary skills, India can reduce its unemployment related problems.
