News: World Hindi Day was celebrated on 10th January with this year’s theme being: “Hindi – Traditional Knowledge to Artificial Intelligence
World Hindi Day
- Every year this day is celebrated on 10th January to encourage the usage of Hindi Internationally
- It was first celebrated in 2003 and it was noticed that it has been spoken for the first time at the UN General Assembly on the same day
- In 1975, the World Hindi Conference was inaugurated in Nagpur and since then such conferences have been taking place at different places across the world.
- In India, September 14 is celebrated as Hindi Divas or National Hindi Divas
- The World Heritage Centre of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, or UNESCO, decided last year to publish descriptions of India’s UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Hindi on its website in honour of World Hindi Day on January 10, 2022.
Purpose of the celebration
- In India, schools and other educational institutions participate in seminars, quizzes, and other events to commemorate World Hindi Day.
- Extempore speeches and Hindi essay competitions are also held in an effort to promote the language.
- The Indian Embassies and government offices also hold seminars on various subjects to mark World Hindi Day.
