Women’s Day Celebration At Universal Group Of Institutions

The world celebrates International Women’s Day on the 8th of March. It’s a day when women are celebrated for their contributions to society. On this day, women from all walks of life come together to rejoice in womanhood. The modern world has witnessed the rise of women for their empowerment. This has helped in bringing out the voice which was hidden for ages. Hence, it is imperative for every organization to become a part of this empowering mission.

In India, National Women’s Day is celebrated on February 13th to commemorate the birth anniversary of Sarojini Naidu, nicknamed the ‘Nightingale of India’. Sarojini Naidu was not only a freedom fighter but also a poet and an activist for women’s rights. Sarojini Naidu was a woman of wide experience. She became the first Indian Women President of the Indian National Congress. This led to her active participation in the Gandhian Movements such as Civil Disobedience and Satyagraha. She also served as the first women Governor of the United Provinces (Uttar Pradesh) in post-independent India. Hence, she serves as an inspiration to women of all ages.

Universal Group of Institutions, as a part of women’s day celebrations, organized an event. The Chief Guests for the day were Mrs. Muktha U Shetty, Senior International Athlete and Mrs. Kathyayini Alva, Police Inspector. The ceremony was presided by Mr. Upendra Shetty, Chairman; Mr. Santhosh Shetty, Administrator and Mr. Vishwas Puttaswamy, Principal. The coordinators Mrs. Kavya Shetty, Assistant Professor of Commerce and Ms. Bhavya A G. Assistant Professor of History, faculties and students graced the occasion.

The programme began with inauguration which was by watering a plant. This was followed by a speech of the Guest of Honor, Muktha U Shetty. Being an international athlete, her achievements filled the students with inspiration.

She motivated the students to set for themselves a disciplined routine. She also encouraged the students to exercise regularly to keep themselves healthy and fit.
The chief guest for the day, Kathyayini Alva was the next speaker. She spoke about how the students are provided with a great opportunity by studying in an integrated programme. The students, in the integrated programme are provided with coaching for competitive exams such as UPSC and KPSC at the early stages of their education which provides them an advantage over other competitors. Such a programme also ensures that students from different streams such as B. Com, BA LLB, and BA are exposed to multidisciplinary topics thereby making them better individuals for society. She asked the students to utilize the facilities provided and achieve their goals in life.

This was followed by a speech of Chairman, who emphasized the need for arranging such programme for the students, to motivate them to come forward at all times and achieve their goals.
The institution had decided to felicitate the woman achievers and thereby the Chairman felicitated Mrs. Muktha U Shetty and Mrs. Kathyayini Alva. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks.

Music and dance have always offered us a chance to express ourselves. India is a diverse country that has a multitude of art forms. The students of Universal Group of Institutions, as a part of women’s day celebrations, organized a cultural night. The event was filled with dance numbers and songs by the students. The highlight of the event was the representation of states through dance performances. The girls took up the initiative and all the girls of the institution together staged a wonderful performance.
