White Spot Disease In Shrimp

News: In the past month, nearly 100 acres of prawn aquaculture in Tamil Nadu’s Nagapattinam area have been impacted by the white spot illness.

Crustaceans including prawns, yabbies, and crabs are susceptible to the highly contagious viral disease known as “White Spot Disease.”

White spot disease causes the quick demise of prawns in high-intensity production settings, such as prawn farms.

The farmed prawn business could suffer a major financial hit as a result.

White spot syndrome virus, a sizable DNA virus identified as the sole member of the genus Whispovirus (family Nimaviridae), is the causative agent.

It is known for the virus to exist in fresh, brackish, and ocean water.

The virus does not endanger human health or the safety of food.

It is mainly disseminated by diseased animals moving about or contaminated water.

The disease can be spread by birds that consume and move among affected animals.

The disease may be spread by marine worms, according to some evidence.
