Significance and Observance of Veer Bal Diwas 2024

  • Veer Bal Diwas commemorates the unwavering bravery and faith of the two Sikh martyrs, inspiring loyalty and courage among children and adults alike.
  • On December 26, 2024, the Government of India will celebrate the day at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi, with Prime Minister Modi addressing the nation.
  • PM Modi will interact with Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar (PMRBP) recipients and highlight their achievements.

Initiatives and Celebrations

  • PM Modi will launch the Suposhit Gram Panchayat Abhiyaan, focusing on nutrition improvement and community participation.
    • 50% of prize money will reward Anganwadi workers/helpers and Gram Panchayats.
    • The remaining 50% will fund nutrition enhancements in Anganwadi centers.

Historical Background of Veer Bal Diwas:

  • Veer Bal Diwas, observed annually on December 26, honors the bravery of Zorawar Singh and Fateh Singh, the youngest sons of Guru Gobind Singh.
  • In 1705, during the siege of Anandpur Sahib Fort, Guru Gobind Singh’s family faced immense adversity. His sons were captured by the Mughal forces.
  • Despite being pressured to convert to Islam, the boys chose martyrdom over renouncing their faith and were bricked alive by orders of Wazir Khan.
  • Recognizing their courage and sacrifice, Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared December 26 as Veer Bal Diwas in 2022.
