Yogi Adityanath led Uttar Pradesh government has come up with a new policy to control the population of the state. In less than a decade India’s population is expected to overtake China. Uttar Pradesh is a major state having both high pouplation and density.

- Reduce mortality rate in new borns and pregnant women
- Incentives for government employees adhering to the family planning
- Safe abortion facilities setup by the government
- Awareness and sexual education in adolescents
Advantages:
- Population control is a good measure for sustainable growth
- Lesser resource consumption
- Greater accessibility to food, education & health
- Elderly care can be provided suitably
- Poverty and unemployment can be reduced
Disadvantages:
- Not good in long term.
- Imbalance in the average age of the country.
- Fertility and other related issues.
- Also seems to violate the rights of people.
- Illegal activities might increase related to this.

In a democratic country like India, population control is quite a challenge to achieve. There are other underlying factors such as religion which directs the population. The population growth rate is very high. Such measures are required but devising and implementing it such that it does not affect a particular group or community is a challenge. With the state elections coming up this move will be a deciding factor. The intention and timing of the move seems to be jeopardised.
