About Thermal Power In India

  • Power plants that use heat to produce electricity are known as thermal power plants or thermal power stations.
  • Coal, oil, natural gas, and geothermal energy are some of the energy sources used by thermal power plants to generate heat.
  • There are two types of thermal power plants: those that run on fossil fuels and those that run on renewable energy.
  • India has a variety of different kinds of thermal power plants, including:
    • Coal based thermal power plant: It is used as the fuel source in coal-fired thermal power plants. In India, the most prevalent kind of thermal power plant is coal-fired;
    • Gas and oil burned thermal power plants: The fuel for these plants is either gas or oil;
    • Nuclear thermal power plants;
    • Solar thermal power plants: These facilities produce heat using solar radiation. In India, solar thermal power plants are the most recent generation of thermal power plants;
    • Geothermal thermal power plants: These facilities produce electricity by harnessing the heat from the earth. In India, geothermal power plants rank as the second most prevalent category of thermal power plants.
  • NOTE:
    • As per https://cea.nic.in, the total thermal power stations in india are 264 as March, 2023;
    • In India, the thermal power industry has been a significant contributor to the country’s electricity generation, making up about 75% of all installed power capacity. With a total installed thermal capacity of 236.1 GW as of May 2022, coal accounts for 58.6% of India’s thermal power output, with the remaining sources being gas, diesel, and lignite.
  • List of India’s important operators of thermal power plants which includes both the government and the private sector-run thermal power plants:
    • NTPC (National Thermal Power Corporation)
    • NHPC (National Hydroelectric Power Corporation)
    • REC (Rural Electrification Corporation)
    • NEEPCO (North Eastern Electric Power Corporation)
    • PFC (Power Finance Company)
    • Power Grid of India Corporation (POWER GRID)
    • SJVN: A Tiny Ratna Enterprise
    • THDC India Private Limited
    • Power System Operation Corporation Limited, also known as POSCOCO
Semiconductors

●    These are materials with conductivity in between conductors and insulators. The elements may be compounds such as gallium, arsenide, and cadmium selenide, or pure elements like silicon and germanium;

●    These fundamental components act as the brains and hearts of all contemporary electronics and information and communications technology devices;

●    These days, these chips are a standard component of modern cars, home appliances, and vital medical equipment like ECG machines.
